"Net profit at Zurich Financial (ZURN.VX: Quote, Profile, Research) rose by a fifth in 2007, outstripping expectations, on the back of cost cuts and the Swiss insurer said it would continue to scoop up rivals, boosting its shares."
"We have a strong balance sheet and we're prepared to participate in the market," Chief Financial Officer Dieter Wemmer told journalists on a conference call."
"In a sign of its strong capital position, Zurich also announced a 2.2 billion Swiss franc ($2 billion) share buy-back and raised its dividend to 15 francs per share."
Relatively new and not heavily traded, they are one of the biggest insurance plays in Europe and worldwide. They are clear of subprimeand will be a steady growth over 5 years.
