CAPS Rating:
****

The Company is a provider of communications services. It has two reportable segments, Wireline and Domestic Wireless, which it operates and manages as strategic business units and organize by products and services.

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Hate is a strong word, and I hate VZ for being the sneaky people they are. Have a plan, and was told I could change it at any time. So I took more minutes than I needed to be on the safe side. Tried to change the plan, and was told i could but had to renew 1 year contract. Told them to stuff it and ...More

VZ is a great longterm green thumb. Verizon continues to demonstrate it is the leader in wireless technology and has recently shifted some focus on telecom infrastructure investment. There has been a lot of criticism that FiOs is much too large an expense for the return, however working in commercial real estate I have noticed Verizon reaching out to many owners in order to run this system to commercial office buildings. Many landlords realize this is a great investment in the building and a big draw for a lot of tenants, plus little to no out of pocket expense for them. Impressive technology, which might be a gamble but also might pay off dividends in the near future.

With the Palm Pre coming to Verizon in 6 months and possibly the iphone shortly thereafter, Verizon looks like it will get all the golden tickets. Also note that this is happening just as the smart phones are becoming the mainstream choice over the traditional cell phone. Add that with Verizon's amazing network, and you've got a winning combination. The alltel merger was a decent deal, and gave instant market share without too much of a premium. Also, verizon offers discounts to a lot of employees of larger businesses, which secures a decent percentage of their client base. For the short-term, Verizon is uncontested in the mid-west, which offers two benefits: these rural areas are the only untapped market in the wireless biz. Verizon is still getting a lot of new customers buying their first cell phones in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming. Buyer at $29 a share. I see at least 30% upside potential within 12 months. Buy long.

Verizon Wireless is solid right now but give it several years. CDMA technology will become archaic and they have yet to develop a competitive technology against 4G technology. LTE is still very vague and what they've come up with so far hasn't really shown much. AT&T is much weaker in North America right now but they are banking on the future and if Verizon doesn't step up, in 25 years they will not be the North American leader.

strongest in the cell phone business, good dividend. believe growth should continue as they enter the cable market and compete with comcast.
