Templeton Russia & East European Fund (NYSE:TRF)

CAPS Rating:
2 out of 5

A non-diversified closed-end management investment company that seeks long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in equity securities of Russian companies.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Russia is my favourite BRIC market. Moscow trades at a huge valuation discount (9X earnings, 2X book) to China (4X book, 27 times earnings)

80% premium to NAV isn't unprecedented, but it will go away fast if the rally breaks.

Paying $16.50 for what's only worth $11.10 is crazy. Why don't you just buy the underlying stocks instead? Secondly, I don't like its high exposure to the oil and mining sectors in times like these.

Political tormoil will keep the Russian market weak. Thye rise in the dollar will help the value of the oil exports but the weakness of the Ruble will hurt nore.
