As you can see on my Active list, I am a big GRMN fan (read the pitch!).

But now it appears that TomTom is stealing market share: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071218/garmin_last_call.html. That leaves me no alternative but to pick TomTom to outperform as well...

I have not had a single problem with either unit, and I like Garmin as a company. I received the TOMTOM car unit as gift for my birthday and was very impressed by the unit until the GPS receiver broke inside the unit. Understanding the market for GPS units, I didn't think it would be a big deal to just have them replace it. Unfortunately, they could only replace it with a refurbished unit (RED FLAG #1). Hummmm.....that's different, but I know that refurbished units have been getting better, so whatever. RED FLAG #2 happened when they sent me a refurb that didn't even turn on combined with the fact that I had to pay shipping. Huuummmmmm.....that's unimpressive to say the least. RED FLAG #3 - TOMTOM can't send me a new unit or refund the money, plus they wanted me to pay shipping again. Though I got the shipping issue solved, the mere fact that they LOST my trust and don't care is very disturbing if they are going to compete with Garmin. Have I had to deal with customer service with Garmin to evaluate them? No, because my Garmin hasn't broken. Reason I'm giving TOMTOM a HUGE thumbs down is rooted in good old customer service. If you aren't offering a superior product, at least offer superior customer service. If you aren't going to do either, then I'll see you at the bottom!
