Spain Fund, Inc. (SNF)

CAPS Rating:
**

A fund company investing mainly in the telecommunications and technology sectors.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

"... Spain now has as many unsold homes as the US, even though the US is about six times bigger. Spain is roughly 10% of the EU GDP, yet it accounted for 30% of all new homes built since 2000 in the EU. Most of the new homes were financed with capital from abroad, so Spain's housing crisis is closely tied in with a financing crisis.

Going head-to-head against Ultralong on this pick, quite possibly to my detriment. Krugman and other people I respect are bearish on Europe, and especially bearish on Spain.

Longer-term, the technicals of SNF don't seem to keep up with EWP, Spain's index.

I currently believe that the S&P is headed down and flat-lining, and that SNF will fall more than the S&P.

This is one of many of UltraLong's Picks. With the VIX going down when the market goes down, as it has in the past few days, it's time to go long. The bottom is in. The worst sector, banks is being marked-to-profit. It's time to go long. Seeing as how it's easier to just copy UltraLong's picks than create a new list of my own by sorting through an immense quantity of etf providers, I'm joining him since I can't beat him.
