SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (ADR) (SANYY.PK)

CAPS Rating:
*

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

This is a dollar yen play. They will be worth more so their stock will go up. Dollar will go lower, yen will go up. Sanyo may end up buying something red white and blue.

Story of Sanyo

Until last year this company was still managend by the founder family. Goldmann Sachs gave huge money injection in 2005/6 and currently owns big chunk of it. (In the contract for the money they included some prefered stocks with a right to excecute 1:10 for more stocks which they excecuted as far as I can see on number of stocks) . They threw family out of management which rejected to skip unprofitable business. Now they sold handy, refridgerators and have a really good new plan "Gaia" (Save the world with Sanyo products....). They only follow the business where they can compete: Battery, Solar, Camcorder, Beamer. (They will deliver Battery for all those Hybrid cars for sure)

Now comes the reason why they will NOW turn around:

Are PROFITABLE for two quarter now

Last FINAL SELLOFF happend in JAnuary after the rumor of delisting came on the old news of only slightly wrong reports of 2004-2006.

Stock nearly lost 50% in only a few days after a rise of 30% on news of good quarter. #

Stock rose more then 60% after delisting rumor was cancelled offically by Tokio exchange.

What will happen now:

The clever guys at Goldmann Sachs now will promote Sanyo heavily.

They will list it on NYSE or Nasdaq again. Not this Sanyy.pk any more. They will give a strong buy rating. Maybe force some other company to buy big deal solar panells from Sanyo.

They did the same with the german "Nordex" where they give big deal money injection in 2003 and bought the company for 1Euro /Share . The also bought some windfarm planning company. Guess which windturbine they were planning afterwards? Big orders came in at Nordex... . Stock rose to more the 30Euro.

Okay, I think its a toss-up, but I will call an outperform. Solid, reliable and attractively designed electronics products include wireless phones, TVs and appliances at prices that are highly competitive. Well designed new cell phone lines with excellent gui. Whether they can be profitable is another story.
