The Princeton Review, Inc. (REVU)

CAPS Rating:
***

The Company provides integrated classroom-based, print and online products and services that address the needs of students, parents, educators and educational institutions.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

If the economy goes down, more customers. Up? Higher prices.

Either way, we're in good shape investing in this small-cap company with a blue-chip brand name.

Unprofitable, cash flow negative, and facing a much stronger competitor in The Washington Post's Kaplan, I fear Princeton isn't long for this world.

Acquisition of Penn Foster bodes well as industry moves towards more specific special-skills-based careers.

I think Kaplan is the better company... Dont get me wrong- Princeton Review offers great services- but it is too expensive and are often used by kids looking to go to some of the most selective, private colleges. With the economic climate, I think many families will take their chances and do their own study, or go for the less expensive state schools and forget about spending thousands on more SAT Prep- so all in all, good service, bad company-

Quick look at the balance sheet shows stabilizing financials and slight reduction in debt. I'd like to see some insider buying instead of selling.

But with the stock near lows I think it could recover fast with a decent earnings report.
