This is a very stable and trusted NYSE company; and compared to other world recognized companies in overall PPD does good and tries to stay in the game. May not be in top of the game, but it's in the game specially with all this ecomic situaton where big companies went down.

Something very fishy with this one. Management is obsessed with the stock price rather than running the business. Ratios and per share data highly manipulated by massive share buybacks. Insiders dumping shares into the company buybacks. Repeated problems with auditors, the SEC, the FTC, attorney generals, former members, former associates. Tons of restated/amended SEC filings. And what is going on with retained earnings starting in 2003? Should equal the previous year's retained earnings, plus the current year's net income, minus dividends paid in the current year. Starting in '03 it doesn't add up. This one is a Van Gogh... Looks good from afar, but far from good.

Here, I see free cash flow and even declining debt over sequential quarters, so it seems they are buying back shares with free cash. Not sure why this is 1-star, should be a 3-star or better in my view. I have no idea what the trends are for affordable legal services, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be part of a recovering economy.

On 30 stocks over $50 million magic formula screen.

Nobody likes this stock. Rated 1* on CAPS and Schwab gives it a D. Revenue has been steadily increasing since 2004. Continue to have strong earnings every quarter. Trailing 3 year average PE ratio of 10.3, with a 5 year 25% EPS growth. Lots of stock buy backs to fuel this EPS growth. Solid cash flows and paying back long term debt. Not sure about the business model, but the numbers look pretty solid. Can’t find analysts predicting future earnings for PPD. This stock also tends to show up on the MFI screen quite a bit. Can’t quite bring myself around to purchasing with my real money portfolio, but will be interesting to follow.
