POSCO (ADR) (PKX)

CAPS Rating:
****

The Company manufactures and sells a line of steel products, including hot rolled and cold rolled products, plates, wire rods, silicon steel sheets and stainless steel products.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Don't take this pan the wrong way folks. I have liked Posco for years and think it is arguably one of the best managed steel companies out there. This is just part of my near-term pan on all things commodities as well as a reminder for me to take a look on a pullback of 10-15% if we get it.

My selection of POSCO is based on a multi-tiered strategy that I see being fulfilled by this company. It is a hedge against the continued de-valuation of the US Dollar that is taking place with unintended consequences as likely to cause as much harm as the intentional inflationary ones we will have the pleasure of suffering through at some point in the future. Also having investments in foreign companies can offer better chance of performance when the US economy is in the toilet along with all of the domestic Corporations within it or greatly relying on the US alone for economic success. Longer term POSCO's earnings will increase on consolidation of the global steel industry, overseas growth initiatives, rising demand for durable goods in Asia, a better product mix, and greater control of raw materials. POSCO is also a vehicle to capitalize on the consolidation of the global steel industry and growth in durable goods demand in Asia. The consolidation of this industry will lead to POSCO's tremendous beneficial outcomes of the economies of scale that will provide price, production, efficiency, and discipline offering less volatile prices and steadily increasing profitability as greater sales and earnings stability will result in much higher valuation of this company's share price. Coupled with the value priced shares of the stock now in view of the overall average prices this stock has traded for and the tremendous potential for big increase in price overall I view this as an excellent addition to ones portfolio at the current price it is selling for.
