****

The Company is in the research, development and commercialization of organic light emitting diode, or OLED, technologies and materials.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Trading at large multiple of book value. OLEDs may reach commercial viability by 2015, 7 years from now. Investors will not wait that long.

No skin in this game as they have no earnings (which is against my rules of ownership), but I find the technology compelling. In the long run, it is technologies such as this, those that reduce resource use ("reduce" comes first in "reduce-reuse-recycle" for a reason) will lead us out of this dark tunnel. Will PANL be part of that procession? I have no idea, but if they start posting earings, I'll jump in.

They make Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED), not too exciting on the surface, but;

-They developed an OLED that emits 102 lumin per watt.

a) incandescent lights average about 15 lumins per watt.

b) flourescent lights average 60 to 90 lumins per watt.

- OLEDS do not generate heat like other lighting sources (yes even less heat that flourescent)

- Everyone pays for R&D, you either pay for it now with money or you pay for it later when everyone else is eating up your marketshare.

- They have big corporate sponsors and even the Dept. of Energy is helping to float them while they work towards their goal of 150 lumins per watt.

- Tree huggers will love the fact that OLEDs, if used for lighting, could reduce US carbon emissions by like 9 million 9 (billion, trillion, gazillion... shoo bee doo bee scoobidy doo dillion) tons!!

a) Heck, I think that's cool and I don't even care about the evironment.... truth be told, neither do you. Not unless its convenient.

I simply used the screener to find all of the 5 star stocks with the greatest 52-week losses. 5 stars should make them good picks and the high 52-week loss should make them cheap. We’ll see how it works!
