Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Good grief, getting taken here with -66 pts towards the end of July '09. Year over Year its down to $1.85 today from over $20, and 6-month down from over $10. Obviously, they're losing lots of money - several time the current price of late. Little digging into some ratios from Thomson-Reuters and a ...More

This company appears to be a "one trick pony"; i.e., continually trying to deliver profitability via an unchangiung focus on cost reduction. I have seen nothing yet that would indicate a growing predisposition toward (much needed) innovation or added value, which this industry will demand. I furth...More

This company is selling for a ridiculously low Price/Sales ratio. In the short term they have already stopped the operating losses and their balance sheet is sound. On a recovery of the bussiness this stock will be worth several times it's current price.

Pacer International is another of a handful of sub-$5 beat up stocks that appears to me to have reasonable potential, unlike the current favorites that have thier Marley ghost chains rattling with investors chasing them through the graveyard. Looking at Pacer's past two years, many might put Pacer in the deathbed camp as well. I see them as beaten down and wearing a few castes, but possibly on the mend. As a third party logistics provider in North America, Pacer faces the same challenges as it's peers, too much competition and too few contracts. Pacer has two divisions and the intermodal section is especially capital intensive in equipment requiring a minimum level of orders to avoid burning through the companies meager resources. The "rails" received a massive shot in the tracks when oil spiked two years ago and despite the retrace in oil from it's highs, rail continues to be the least expensive method to move large materials. Buffett helped validate this by his recent purchase. Stacktrain, rail brokerage, and local cartage services between truck/auto/ and international shipping companies appears to have bottomed. The logistics division should also benefit by an uptick in the economy, and possibly from the massive shipments by our military and now to Haiti. Finacials still look bleak, but debt is down over 10% the last year and Pacer, like it's peers have scale back and cut to the rails. Cutting is not a long term solutioin, but appears to have helped stem the bleeding. Revenue has been on the climb the last two quarters and if that holds then profitablility should return. Like many companies Pacer fully wrote down it's goodwill and assets. While growth is still speculative, I'm happy to add it as a sub-$5 long to my CAPs calls and will be watching it for a possible RL invvestment.

Key contracts are being renewed or are in the process of....

While i do not see as big a role as there was for middlemen like Pacer, they certainly will not go away. Especially while providing railroads with smaller clients. The "doomsday valuation" makes it attractive despite debt problems.
