Orleans Homebuilders (OHB)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company markets, develops and builds quality single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums to serve various types of homebuyers, including move-up, luxury, empty nester, active adult, first-time move-up and first-time homebuyers.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Glad I could slip in just over the 100M cap requirement and give this a big red thumbs down. How it ran from $20M to $100M in a week is beyond me, especially since they have $400M + in debt, and not enough cash to pay debts in a week, let alone repayments in Sept-Dec.

Granted, they might be able to get extensions or debt exchanges and live a a little longer, but it's not looking too good over there -- especially with the stock priced as if this company will profit and flourish in the next year.

Floridabuilder says: Their debt to equity is at a critical stage, their backlog sucks, and they have negative operating margins.

You have to be crazy not so see this company is headed stright for bankruptcy. 80% debt to quity, come on! Sheesh, that would be bad anytime, but in this houseing market and the way things are going for homebuilders right now, its almost like cheating to make this call, but what the heck, I'll take my caps points and run!

Woo hoo! I'm back in (or should I say out). I closed the red thumb before the rallies thinking I could get back in once they peaked. Well, I tried only to find that OHB fell below the $100MM market cap rule.

Lucky me though. The recent rallies pushed OHB's market crap back over the lower limit. The red thumb is back on one of the worst-positioned public builders ($32MM in cash, 80% debt to equity). I'm looking for my bankruptcy icon on this one, and I won't make the mistake of closing out my red thumb this time.
