Nicholas-Applegate Conv. &, Inc.Fund II (NCZ)

CAPS Rating:
*****

A closed-end company

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

The fund has given no indication that it will not be able to continue to pay dividends. At $0.12 cents / share, a current yield of nearly 30%, and the likelihood that the preferred stock held in this fund will be far more defensive in the short term compared to common stock, this fund is a great ch...More

The average credit quality is "only" B, but the diversification within the fund cushions any risk. The 12% yield could be slashed in half and NCZ would still be attractive.

Purely a play on dividends and the thought that the market may have started slowing. The last time I made a dividend play for "security", the market rose 33%, squashing my dividend plays. With a slower rise I believe dividends, though prorated under the CAPs SPY model, will beat the S&P, especially if the underlying equity also posts some gains as others seek the dividends. Nicholas-Applegate as a holder of bonds with slightly more risk was beaten down in share price. The worse for corporate cash flow and risks for bankruptcy's appears to be over. While dividends are not guaranteed, the current 0.085 per month, or 13.6% dividends on Nicolas-Applegate looks like a good place to test my dividend theory. (Opened at $8.07).

Dividend payout of 12.6% will drop start price and make this an outperform
