Manitowoc Company, Inc. (MTW)

CAPS Rating:
*****

The Company is a diversified, multi-industry manufacturer of engineered capital goods and support services for selected market segments, which includes Cranes and Related Products, Foodservice Equipment, and Marine.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Manitowoc has certainly put up some ugly numbers. But as long as the company can survive a protracted global recession, it will be in a good position to capitalize on increasing investment in infrastructure in emerging market nations. From the point of view of normalized 5 or 10 year earnings, this ...More

I work in this industry and I have seen a steady decline in all goods and services. Yes they bought the biggest competitor in the food service industry and now they have a nice monopoly. But, things are still very rough.

just a guess that this one gets gobbled up by ITW- Like the company and its products- a winner for the long term when we start coming out of recession- would expect a couple years before this becomes a high flyer agian

Manitowoc has been a customer of mine for many years. Any time you're in a motel, you're likely to use one of their ice dispensers.

They are also the leader in mobile cranes. They actually have a model that will self erect itself once it gets delivered to a job site. A huge strategic advantage.

Their stock has been slammed because of the building slump, and because they violated the covenants on their debt facility.

Recently they have restructured their debt, and have made good progress on reducing it through their strong cash flow.

Several years ago they had the best 10 year performance on the NYT.

The stock has more than quadrupled since its nadir in March, and could do it again without reaching its peak.

Being very familiar with this company, I'm sure it will continue to do well.

the manufacturing companies are going up
due to mining needs going up. Manitwoc is ahead of
the game and will continue to strive as long as there
is work and equipment ,like cranes, needed. Hopefully
this company teams up with Taseko mines (TGB) or Evergreen
Energy (EEE).
Go silver and gold.
Go green$$$
