The McClatchy Company (MNI)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company is the newspaper company in the US, also has a robust network of internet assets, including local websites in each of its daily newspaper markets, offering users information, comprehensive news, advertising, e-commerce and other services.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

What you should do if you think this rally is real?
This advice applies if you just think that there's a few ticks on the clock before it hits midnight. Personally, I think that what we've seen recently has been a sucker's rally. However, even if I'm right, it doesn't mean that someone can't make...More

Well, here we are at round two with one of my favorite garbage stocks. I'm just going to re-post what I wrote in the garbage stock blog about McClatchy aside from slightly adjusting the debt figures. It was and still is a pure garbage play.

Newspapers are dead. This company is a pure-play newspaper operator. They should have diversified or invested more into Internet properties back when they could, but now it may be too late for them to recover. Popping up crazy high based on nothing more than rumors and empty promises.

It's yield and P/E are very high. The number of stars are very low. Too much debt and a deteriorating business. They're best bet would be to make their news websites profitable and do away with the newspaper business. But the short history of the web has already proven what a difficult task that can be.
