Martin Marietta's building materials business has dropped with the economy and lower demand for its products. But the business will come back with the economy, and at its current price, it seems oversold. A good pick for the patient with a long-term horizon.

This is a company with competitive advantages (barriers to entry, limited competition as aggregates have a high weight to value ratio) which will benefit directly from inflation. Earnings should be muted in the next few years as earnings are partially dependent on construction but over the long term should outperform. I like VMC more because I like their strategy better (see my pitch for a detailed description) but MLM is in better financial shape. Both should perform well over time.
