*

The Company manufactures and sells fiber cement building products for interior and exterior building construction applications.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

There is still a large overhang of new homes available on the market. This leads to a depressed need for new construction for the next year or two.

James Hardie produces fiber sement building products in the US, Australia and Europe. The company's price has tripled over the last six months (because????). At this point, James Hardie's market cap is $2.71 BB, the company has utilized all of its debt capacity and it has an unfunded asbestos liability of $658 million. By comparison, the company earned about $130 million last year. Estimated 2010 earnings are $0.82 per share and estimated 2011 earnings are $1.26 per share. The current share price of $32.19 seems unsustainable. Caps 2, Stockscouter 4.

The way I see it the housing market can only go up from here. I could try to time it more closely but the administration has shown that they will put a floor under this drop and that is enough for me!
