BREAKING NEWS from Dec 31st:
Quad City Times: Davenport leaders:" Limit Isle gaming license renewal". This is an interesting article concerning Rhythm City, the city of Davenport, the Davenport Mayor and IOC and appeared Dec 31st 2010 in the Quad Cities Times. You can read the article in it's entirety on-line.

The City of Davenport is asking the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to only grant a temporary or conditional gaming license to the IOC/Rhythm City Casino this time around and try to force IOC towards the negotiations to a proposed purchaser, MSEG. This could force IOC into almost a distressed sale of Rhythm City. The pressure is on.

A letter, signed by Mayor Bill Gluba and all 10 Davenport aldermen, sent two days before the Dec. 30 license renewal deadline pointed out that Isle’s lack of investment was costing nonprofit groups, city government and the state millions of dollars a year in lost revenue.

The letter also said the city is “prepared to initiate legal actions to secure competitive, commercially reasonable investment in Davenport” but prefers to work with the Riverboat Development Authority and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to secure investment through a voluntary sale of IOC’s interests.

Currently, we have a monopoly on gambling in Scott County, with the same company holding both licenses,” he said. “There is no competition, in my judgment. And it’s proven now to not be in the public interest.”

Officials from Isle did not return calls seeking comment on either the letter or the ongoing negotiations.
