On a long term basis, it's pretty difficult for a utility with a good payout ratio to beat the S&P. I'm expecting this stock to underperform.

The high percentage of energy produced by hydropower will be rewarded by carbon credits and western demand for energy. Debt is a concern. As fossil fuel supplies dwindle, their price increases -- So prices will increase significantly for fuels well before they run out.. And if pluggable electric vehicles increase in significantly in popularity, the energy burden currently being borne by oil will shift to the power grid, which may itself be suffering the ill effects of the fuel price increases. Idaho power currently derives the majority of their power from hydroelectric sources, and have actively been developing solar and wind facilities. As a result, their power is less subject to the fluctuations in the fossil fuel markets. Because they are charged with providing power to a large sparsely populated area, they have been pioneering in the use of local power generation (e.g. proving solar arrays to remote ranches). As more localized power production and renewable fuels come into vogue, I think there experience in the arena will serve them well. Report this Post Replies: 1 \| Reply \| Permalink Oops! What can i say, everyone need what they produce and i have a gut feeling I usually go with, regardless of what the road looks like at present.
