Helen of Troy Limited (HELE)

CAPS Rating:
***

The Company is a global designer, developer, importer and distributor of an expanding portfolio of brand-name consumer products. Its two active segments are Personal Care and Housewares.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Enough is enough, this bad boy is nearly the 50 cents on the dollar range, earnings are starting back up and the cost savings from improved distribution facilities will start to be in the operating figures in the coming quarters.

This is a slow grower but single digit pe seems wrong.

All their products are sold at value retailers like WMT, TGT, CVS, WAG and AMZN. I'm not worried about consumer spending because these look like the best products for their value.

Downthumb. Negative cash flow. Nominal debt ratio. Low 4% 5 year sales growth. High gross margins. Cap-ex is -37% 5 year growth. Overvalues prior to stabilized growth.

The company has good earnings momentum, with surprises and estimate increases recently, but the price is down, providing a very attractive entry opportunity today.

value pick. HELE has a solid Z-Score of 4.6 and a P-Scale rating of 6 out of 9. The stock sells at 75% of book value and just 7 times multiple earnings. The company has a good balance sheet with over $100 million in cash. Management is cutting lower-margin gross-margin product lines; making drastic reductions in selling, general and administrative (SG&A) costs; and paying down debt. The retail environment will continue to be difficult, but the company is optimistic that it can grow sales modestly and boost margins going forward and continue to generate cash in 2008.
