***

The Company is a global provider of vertically-integrated advanced design and electronics manufacturing services to original equipment manufacturers.

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Can't imagine investing in this stock. Weak balance sheet, poor margins, low capacity utilization and losing business back to OEM's.

Needham just upgraded them from a hold to a buy with a target price of $8, but Morningstar has their estimated fair value at $3.

An excerpt from Morningstar's 10-27-09 analyst report:

Sales were $5.8 billion, roughly flat quarter over quarter, supporting our belief that contract manufacturing still has not been meaningfully lifted by the improving economic conditions of recent months. Still, cost reductions and lower restructuring costs led to the operating margin increasing sequentially from 0.2% to 2.1%. We've seen this before with Flextronics, however, and don't believe the company has truly turned the corner or is positioned to consistently produce 2%-3% operating margins (decent numbers for a contract manufacturer with high exposure to consumer electronics). Restructuring charges have occurred in each of the past six years, making us doubtful the cost-cutting management is trumpeting now will meaningfully improve its operations. More than $1 billion in charges over this period has yet to improve the company to where it can perform at the levels of its better-run peers (Jabil Circuit JBL, Benchmark Electronics BHE, and Plexus PLXS). In our opinion, until Flextronics develops a coherent strategy, results will remain inconsistent and returns on invested capital subpar.

FLEX sells what big telco vendors and electronics brands need: flexibility and cost efficiency.

Flex will lose to BYD and Hon Hai.

Sadly, humane employee benefits and good management (aka higher cost) will not work in China, where cost is everything.
