Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc. (CFR)

CAPS Rating:
**

A financial holding company and a bank holding company that provides, through its subsidiaries an array of products and services throughout 12 Texas markets.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Texas has not felt the effects of the economic downturn like California, Nevada, Florida and Arizona and that is why all Texas regional banks are a great buy. CFR is well capitalized with little to no subprime exposure. Great management team and board of directors.

Along with BOH and a few other regionals, I'm high on CF. Very good debt, well positioned, nice yield, good P/E. The stronger regional banks should be among the first companies to perform well, before the general economy picks up. CFR will be able to tap the cheap fed dollars and lend them at, naming their return . . . 7,8,9,10% . . . whatever.
CFR is positioned to kill it.
