Countrywide Financial Corp (CFC)

CAPS Rating:
*

A holding company which, through its subsidiaries, is engaged in mortgage lending and other real estate finance-related businesses, including mortgage banking, banking and mortgage warehouse lending, dealing in securities and insurance underwriting.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

For every share of CFC you own after the BAC takeover, you will own 0.1822 shares of BAC. Not a bad ratio, 6.65 at today's closing prices. CFC will come back under the wings of the BIG BANK. Tighter underwriting and credit leaves them with no choice. Strong demand for refinancing due to plummeting i...More

It's never too late to bet against Countrywide's inevitable bankruptcy filing. Bank of America has agreed to purchase CFC, but as their value of CFC's portfolios becomes more apparent and the lawsuits mount, BAC will gladly walk away and pay the small cost of severing the deal than deal with the rep...More

This is a terrible company in a terrible economy. The balance sheet speaks for itself.

Did I mention it was run by a bunch of criminals? Sell this junk!

Speculative.

Stock has been flat more or less YTD. BAC buyout coming soon.

Stock trades at 0.23 times book, 0.11 times sales, yields 13.57 on the dividend, if half of which can be paid would still be a nice 6-7% yield.

People will eventually come back into this housing market. CFC is possitioned well to profit from that comeback.
