Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (CBI)

CAPS Rating:
*****

An engineering, procurement and construction company, serving customers in a number of key industries including oil and gas; petrochemical and chemical; power; water and wastewater; and metals and mining.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I think when the economy improves by 2012 this stock should do pretty well, and big oil companies will definitely need CBI for major constructions.

I am CBI for long.

CBI is a better buy under $30/share, but still the current PE is 636!! And most optimistic projections for coming year still puts PE in the 60's! Too much hype & positive speculation on this stock based on the order backlogs and industry strength. Order backlogs may not automatically result in in...More

On 30 stocks over $50 million magic formula screen.

looks promising at first glance Has a 5* rating on Motley Fool CAPS. S&P rates it a 3*. Had a bad earnings quarter in Q2 2008 with $-1.47 EPS (blamed on a $317 million loss in the “UK Projects” due to poor labor productivity, weather delays, and need to supplement critical subcontractor work). Earnings have been positive since then but seem to be decreasing…Q4 2008 = $0.72, Q1 2009 = $0.51, Q2 2009 = $0.45, Q3 2009 = $0.42 and estimate for Q4 2009 is currently $0.39 (to be reported 2/23/2010). Revenue and cash flow are likewise decreasing. Trailing PE ratio for average of last 3 years is 23.73 with an EPS growth over the last 2 years of 16.47% (these include the “bad” quarter in Q2 2008). Used to pay a dividend through 2008, but no longer does. Has $120 million in long term debt. The current ratio is only 0.70. Profit margin is small – between 3.5 and 4. Insider ownership 6%. Not going to put real money in this one.

Democrats have added tariffs so this makes this a buy.
