Citigroup, Inc. (C)

CAPS Rating:
**

A diversified global financial services holding company whose businesses provide a range of financial services to consumer and corporate customers.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

So, what's your point? Citi is not Bear Stearns. Citi is a diversified financial giant, not an under-capitalized investment bank. Citi makes money year-round on all of its financial service products. While it has written down nearly 30 Billion in assets, these assets are not worthless. Additionally,...More

Face it, there is still more fall out from the mortgage line. Along with stock price dilution for Citigroup.

In December 1991, Citicorp fell to $8.63; the dividend was gone for some time (three years, I believe). I think it's important to look at history and larger stories, and I think Citigroup and the macroeconomic conditions are in worse shape than back then. I expect the dividend to be eliminated and for the stock to drift towards $10 as it takes much longer to get its house in order than most people expect. "Best" case scenario: Market conditions improve, but massive dilution keeps shareholders of C from benefitting much. Still a market laggard, imo.

Citigroup will get their affairs in order and cut some of the bad producers off its bottom line. Streamlining and concentrating on getting past the subprime fiasco. The stock is low and should build in the years to come.

This turned out to be a junk stock for me. For the current price, of about 16 bucks, I already lost 50%. I'll still wait until Q2-2008 results and sell it if it does not perfrom. I already put so much money down the toilet. I better invest the money somewhere else and make up for the loss.
