*****

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I've always been a fan of the offshore drillers. ATW's one of my favorite's because of its deepwater fleet. As long as oil prices stay above $60 - $70, they should be pretty profitable for the next few years. The downside is it's a capital intensive industry, so not a lot of FCF, which is usually wh...More

Atwood Oceanics appears to be a really solid company at a very good price right now. Almost too many positives to summarize: TTM PE = 9.1m, EPS growth has been in the 16% range and predicted to be about the same in the future. Strong 40%+ net profit margin for the past several years. 20% insider ownership, and it doesn’t appear to have caught on with the institutional investors heavily yet. Lots of free cash flow, strong current ratio, good return on assets, equity, and invested capital. There will continue to be strong demand for its products as long as the price of oil stays reasonable. The only risk seems to be if the price of oil drops and stays down significantly, which seems like and unlikely scenario. They do use a lot of stock compensation for employees, so there has been about 1-2% share dilution per year and I expect that to continue. But they continue to grow EPS regardless. I expect they will eventually buy back shares if they choose to capture some of that free cash flow for shareholders / executives.

This is going in line with my thoughts on other energy picks. In the near term, we as a society are not able to shift away from gasoline as quickly as the prices increase and an increase in supply will help to slow that increase in price.
