A horrible accident at their Coffeen, IL power plant in 2003 in which Ameren was negligent three times over and that resulted in the death of a 29 yr old contracted commercial diver and father was settled this year for millions. Clearly, the company is cutting costs even if it means their employees...More

6% dividend yield and offered through a direct stock purchase plan with no transaction fees. Can add to shares with additional investments as small as $25. Bought in May not long after price drop because of dividend cut. In "Plugging Into Utilities" by Donald L Cassidy (1993) studies by the author clearly demonstrate the best time to buy a utility is immediately following a dividend cut. Indeed, he even rates a dividend cut as a BUY signal. Currently rated four stars by Standard & Poors.
