Barrick Gold Corp (USA) (ABX)

CAPS Rating:
***

A gold mining company in the world in terms of production, reserves and market capitalization.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Plain and simple....market saturation of an ever accumulating element. Also Gold is becoming more and more obsolete in practicality in todays modern world. It just aint what it used to be. Bottom line. Also Too many geese laying the golden eggs, so to speak. There's just too many companies in the b...More

Largest producer of gold is achieving reduced costs and increased production at a time when gold is in great demand for many reasons, but world production is not sufficient to meet the demand. ABX can be expected to continue to achieve strong sales and earnings growth and will enjoy greater demand among investors as commodity stocks continue to do well in the post credit crunch inflation environment. It is also expected that the dollar will continue to weaken due to the ongoing Fed policy of low interest rates, plus the US budget deficits will insure more money printing. The world is headed towards some radical changes and there is a strong possibility gold will play some role in the stabilization of currency as one country after another devalues to try to maintain favorable trading potential. If that were not enough, ABX will do good if threatened hype-inflation gets going, and it also does well if world events involve wars or disasters. Generally, I like the prospects for gold because it is never going to go bankrupt and end up at zero, but a lot of banks will do so. This stock or another miner belongs in every portfolio. Even if gold dips below 1000 again, ABX should stay very profitable.

Clicking "Beat this Stock!" will bring you to a company with a higher rating than the one you're currently viewing.

Even though CAPS shows only one- to five-star rankings, behind the scenes, all companies in CAPS have a distinct numerical ranking. In other words, there is a No. 1 stock in CAPS and a worst-ranked stock in CAPS. When you arrive at the top-ranked stock, clicking "Beat this Stock!" will cause the page to refresh.

That is, until there is a new No. 1 stock!
